Auditioning.<\/strong> It can be fun, it can be daunting, it can be draining, it can be exhilarating, <\/span>all depending on how you look at it. Let\u2019s break it down and go through some of the <\/span>basics of achieving an awesome audition.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get your booth or studio ready<\/h2>\n\n\n

1.) Make sure that your booth or studio is up to snuff.<\/strong> To keep yourself <\/span>competitive, it is important to make sure you get a studio-quality <\/span>microphone & pop filter, and have a consistent and sound-proof space to <\/a><\/span>record. <\/span><\/p>\n

Using a closet space can be awesome if you don\u2019t have the space to <\/span>build a booth in the other areas of your home. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, make sure that you <\/span>are not using a closet that you will need to get into often. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you are <\/span>constantly taking clothes\/blankets\/linens out of that closet, this will affect <\/span>the sound when you record. Lining the walls of the closet with 2\u201d soundproof <\/span>foam is great. \"A<\/span><\/p>\n

Warm up and read the whole script<\/h2>\n\n\n

2.) Warm up your voice.<\/strong> Give yourself your best chance by doing some quick <\/span>vocal warmups to improve your sound. <\/span><\/p>\n

Do tongue twisters, facial manipulation<\/span>, and stretch your neck as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

Not only does this prepare your <\/span>body to record, but it also gives you a second to mentally prepare to do your best <\/span>recording.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.) Always read through the entire script and any notes on the script first.<\/strong> Get a <\/span>clear idea of what the client is looking for and what feelings they are wanting <\/span>to promote in the listener. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t sure, ask. If that option is not <\/span>available, from the information provided, take your best guess and go for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Put your personality into the read<\/h2>\n\n\n

4.) When recording auditions and bookings, it is important to pay attention to <\/strong><\/span>what the client is looking for, of course, but ALSO to put your own personality <\/strong>into the recording.<\/strong>  <\/span>BE YOU. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let what is unique about YOU be the part that <\/span>hits the client in a way that makes them stop and pay attention and <\/span>ultimately choose you for the booking. <\/span><\/p>\n

Generic is not interesting. Being unique is.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So let yourself flourish and really <\/span>enjoy the recording process, because that will come across in your voice and <\/span>make the end result so much better. The goal is to audition well and book the job, right? <\/span><\/p>\n

So give yourself a leg up and put some personality into your audios. You\u2019ve got this!<\/span><\/p>\n

Review your audio and deliver the right file<\/h2>\n\n\n

5.) Always review your audio after you have recorded it and confirm that you <\/strong>like your delivery.<\/strong> <\/span>Remove any mistakes (if you don\u2019t use the punch-and-roll <\/span>method) and cut out any distracting noises or anything else you know the <\/span>client wouldn\u2019t want to hear.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.) Make sure the file is in the form that the client requested (MP3 or WAV <\/strong>usually) and voila! You did it.<\/strong> <\/span>You just recorded and put out an awesome <\/span>audition that you can feel good about. Take a sec to soak that in and pat <\/span>yourself on the back for going for it and achieving it, and then get back down <\/span>to business and move on to your next audition.
