How did you get started?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019ve been doing voice-overs full-time since late 2008 when the corporate playing field changed under my feet \u2013 essentially forcing me to go from the shallow end of the kiddie pool to the deep end of the pool over night.&nbsp; However, as an IT\/Tech Support type for many years prior to that \u2013 I\u2019d been using my voice daily to help clients correct problems or talk them back from the technological edge; so between that and my previous stage experience \u2013 it was a relatively easy transition.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What are some of the benefits from being a freelance&nbsp;voice actor&nbsp;and working from home?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the greatest benefits is the flexibility it provides is being able to be there for daytime school events for the kids.&nbsp; Not only helping the teachers and PTO setup and run events, but also watching the kids just have fun and be themselves with their friends.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>How has&nbsp;The Voice Realm&nbsp;helped you find work?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Voice Realm has helped my find work by forcing me to \u2018step up my game\u2019 as it were.&nbsp; Since we\u2019re all pros here, you actually have to consciously remember to set the scene in your head before recording an audition so that you deliver the absolute best performance you can.&nbsp; I think that a lot of us have been doing this for so long, that we sometimes inadvertently gloss over that part before recording.&nbsp; By doing that, we get better overall and turn in better auditions (regardless of for which site) \u2013 and hence get more gigs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_907\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-907\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-907\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevoicerealm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Mike-McGonegal.jpg\" alt=\"Professional Voice Over Talent - Mike McGonegal\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-907\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professional Voice Over Talent &#8211; Mike McGonegal<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><b>How is it different to other sites&nbsp;you\u2019ve&nbsp;seen?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As previously mentioned \u2013 everyone on this site is a pro and the clients know that.&nbsp; Other sites? &nbsp;Well \u2013 between newbie vo\u2019s that think recording in their kitchen is acceptable and clients that think $20 is good for a :60 spots \u2013 there\u2019s a heck of a lot of chaff to weed through that can potentially chew up a good portion of the day.&nbsp; Also, since there\u2019s a limited pool of talent auditioning for a project \u2013 there isn\u2019t that mad dash to hit \u2018send\u2019 to be one of the first 50 to audition for a gig&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What\u2019s the quality of jobs like that&nbsp;you\u2019ve&nbsp;seen come through the site?&nbsp;<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Very good quality.&nbsp; The copy that I\u2019ve seen is well written and the pricing is commensurate with usage, which speaks well of the quality of the clients.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>How about the assistance and support you\u2019ve&nbsp;received&nbsp;from the site?&nbsp;<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the two times I have had to contact support?&nbsp; Very quick, informative, helpful, and friendly.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Where do you see the future of the voice over industry going?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Up.<\/p>\n<p>Sorry \u2013 that was too easy an answer&#8230;&nbsp; I see this year being busier than previous ones \u2013 especially in the medical e-learning and technical realms.&nbsp; Maybe I\u2019ll work harder on getting more commercials, but long-form stuff is my bread and butter and I enjoy it immensely.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What are some of the benefits&nbsp;you\u2019ve&nbsp;found from being in control of which jobs you audition for?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The biggest benefit is the ability to read the specs on a job and, knowing that you\u2019re not a match (and never will be), passing on it.&nbsp; By being able to do that, you waste neither your time, NOR the client\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Hire <a title=\"hire a male voice over\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thevoicerealm.com\/view-profile-artist.php?artist_id=70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">male voice talent<\/a> Mike for your next voice over project.
