Several Sites, Now Just One: Larry Wayne on Why The Voice Realm Is Home

Pass it on

When we asked Larry Wayne if we could feature him on the blog, his whole reply was two lines: “Yes! Ask me anything!” So we did. What came back was a love letter to the people behind The Voice Realm, a client he has worked with every week for more than a decade, and a man who has just discovered he wants to win.

Larry Wayne is a voice actor in Browns Valley, near Sacramento, California. His voice is warm, conversational and authoritative, the friendly guy next door one minute and the firm, direct sell the next. He records audiobooks, e-learning, medical narration, movie trailers, radio commercials and political spots, and he has voiced audiobooks for Harper Collins and Hachette. Hear Larry’s demos.

It’s the people

We asked Larry how The Voice Realm compares to life before he joined. He didn’t start with castings or fees. He started with the team.

“There is a personal connection made working with the team at TVR.”

Larry Wayne

And he was specific about what that connection feels like when he needs something.

“Inquiries and feedback on the site from the staff is fast, courteous and friendly.”

Several sites. Now, just one.

Like a lot of voice actors, Larry used to spread himself across every site he could find. That changed.

For a voice actor with audiobooks for major publishers behind him, that’s quite a vote of confidence. We don’t take it lightly.

The new look, and the extras

We’ve been rebuilding the voice actor side of the site this year, and Larry has been watching.

“I love the new layout. Easy to navigate.”

Larry Wayne

He noticed something more than the new paint, too.

“It includes lots of extras that all point toward caring about the professional voice talent.”

Larry Wayne

That’s exactly the point. Every new tool on the dashboard is there to help voice actors get booked and get paid.

One client, every week, since 2014

Ask most voice actors for their favourite job and you’ll hear about a big brand or a big fee. Larry told us about a relationship.

“I started booking with my favorite client thru TVR in 2014. I still get scripts from them almost weekly.”

Larry Wayne

Twelve years. Almost every week. That’s what happens when the right voice meets the right client and both of them keep showing up.

Safe, and staying that way

Larry also values something clients don’t always think about: keeping the conversation on the site.

“They also understand the protocol for working with The Voice Realm and continue to communicate with me thru the site to keep things safe.”

And then, in classic Larry style:

“Lots of crazies out there these days.”

Larry Wayne

He’s not wrong. Every message stays on the site, so voice actors never have to hand over their personal details to get the work done.

Racing for the top 10

This year every voice actor’s dashboard started showing their average time to reply: how fast they get their first file back after a casting or a job lands. We wondered how people would take it. Larry took it as a challenge.

We love that. Clients love a fast reply, and a little friendly competition never hurt anyone.

His advice: make the investment

Finally, we asked what he’d tell a voice actor thinking about joining. Larry has tried plenty of sites, and he knows they’re not all equal.

“All pay to plays are not the same.”

Larry Wayne

“If you’ve got the professional chops and are serious about your business, make the modest investment.”
